In the Doctoral School of Biomedical Sciences, Biology the teaching activity with PhD students is based on:
Advanced undergraduate based training and outcomes programme with first year students in the first semester;
Scientific research program in the fields of plant biology, animal biology, biochemistry, with the presentation of the progress made by doctoral students in scientific research focused on the defense of 3 reports from the content and topic of the doctoral thesis. The results of the scientific research will be made known through a number of 2-3 scientific publications supported by the PhD students at scientific communication sessions, national and international symposia organized by the University of Oradea. For the public defense of the doctoral thesis it is mandatory to meet the minimum national standards for the award of the doctoral title, in force at the time of the thesis defense.
Within the School of Biomedical Sciences, the Biology PhD field, there are 4 PhD supervisors, whose scientific activity is carried out in the following areas of interest:
Prof. univ. dr. Burescu Petru

Bioactive compounds with different biological activities (antioxidant activity, antimicrobial activity, antitumor activity, induction/inhibition activity of detoxifying enzymes) from different plant resources. Identify mechanisms of biosynthesis/degradation of bioactive compounds in different situations (food processing, environmental factors, presence of elicitors, etc.).
Obtaining nanoparticles by chemical and biotechnological methods with applications in the food and medical industries (nanobiotechnology).

Aquatic ecology: macrozoobenthic invertebrate communities, invasive species, ichthyofauna
Aquatic toxicology: effects of pesticides, detergents on the composition of macrozoobenthic and ichthyological communities
Anthropogenic impact: effects of anthropogenic activities on the aquatic environment from bedload extraction, industrial effluents, hydrotechnical works, etc.
