The doctoral field MEDICINE is part of the Doctoral School of Biomedical Sciences, of IOSUD of the University of Oradea - a higher education institution accredited to organize doctoral studies in 18 doctoral fields, organized in 7 Doctoral Schools, in both the full-time and part-time forms.

Currently (academic year 2020-2021), 241 doctoral students are enrolled in the Doctoral School of Biomedical Sciences, Doctoral field MEDICINE. Also, from 2015 to date, a number of 54 PhD students have publicly defended their PhD thesis and 50 have obtained the scientific title of Doctor in MEDICINE, being confirmed by the CNATDCU.
The Doctoral School has its own scientific research plan for each field, included in the strategic plan of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy to which the doctoral field is assigned. The research topics of doctoral theses are included in the Scientific Research Plan of the Doctoral School of Biomedical Sciences and fall within the scientific area of the fundamental field of Biological and Biomedical Sciences.
The mission of the Doctoral field of MEDICINE, organized within the Doctoral School of Biomedical Sciences, is to generate and transfer knowledge to society through:
academic training, at the highest level of performance, of the doctoral student with the aim of satisfying the need for intellectual, professional and social development of the student, but also the need for specialized workforce of the society;
to promote excellence in the processes of scientific research, development, innovation and transfer of knowledge to the Romanian society, thus responding to its need for progress.
The main objectives pursued by the PhD field are the following:
Ob.1. optimise and make more efficient training programmes based on advanced studies;
Ob.2. to ensure and continuously improve the quality of the activities carried out within the doctoral field;
Ob.3. stimulate, develop research capacity and capabilities, while promoting new research directions;
Ob.4. develop the human resources involved in the doctoral studies;
Ob.5. internationalisation and increased visibility at national and international level;
