The existence of a doctoral school in the field of Agronomy in Oradea is not at all accidental, since here, in 1961, within the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences "Gheorghe Ionescu Șișești", was founded the current Agricultural Research and Development Station Oradea, which had collaborations with the main national agricultural research institutes and stations.
Having a very good and appreciated tradition (in 1978 the Pomicultural Research and Development Station Oradea was separated from the Agricultural Research and Development Station Oradea) the didactic and research premises for the realization of higher agricultural education within the University of Oradea were realized, so that at the Faculty of Environmental Protection the specializations Agriculture (1993), Horticulture (1993) and Environmental Engineering (1996) were established. Competitive projects won after 1999 contributed to the consolidation of the three specialisations. Projects financed by European (PHARE, HURO) or national funds (Relansin, Agral, SCG-World Bank, CNCSIS, CEEX, PNCDI Idei) have been won.
The above highlights the fact that the conditions for the accreditation of the Agronomy doctoral field in Oradea were met. On 26 August 2010 a commission led by the President of the National Authority for Scientific Research found on the spot that the necessary conditions for the functioning of the doctoral field ,,Agronomy" in the Doctoral School of the University of Oradea exist. This was followed by MECTS Order no. 5677/19.11.2010 accrediting the doctoral field ,,Agronomy".
It should be recalled that the foundations of this Doctoral School in Agronomy were laid by Prof. Dr. habil Domuța Cornel, PhD supervisor, who unfortunately passed away in 2017. Today, within the Doctoral School, Agronomy field, there are three PhD supervisors, Prof. Dr. habil Sabău Nicu Cornel, Prof. Dr. habil Brejea Radu Petru and CSI Head of PhD Dr. habil Ioan Valentin Petrescu-Mag who supervise 16 PhD students, 8 PhD students in the first year, 3 PhD students in the second year and 5 PhD students in the third year.
The Doctoral School of the University of Oradea organizes the first admission for the field of Agronomy in 2015, under the supervision of Mr. Ioan Valentin Petrescu-Mag. Since 2016, following the habilitation of Mr. Prof. univ. dr. habil. Domuța Cornel and Mr. Conf. univ. dr. habil. Brejea Radu Petru, 6 PhD students have been admitted. In the absence of the late Prof. univ. dr. habil. Domuța Cornel in 2017, 3 PhD students were admitted, coordinated by Conf. univ. dr. habil. Brejea Radu Petru and Mr. CSI Chief of thesis dr. habil. Ioan Valentin Petrescu-Mag. The 2018 admission allowed the selection of 8 PhD students, coordinated by Prof. univ. dr. habil. Sabău Nicu Cornel and Conf. univ. dr. habil. Brejea Radu Petru. Also this year, after 3 years from the first admission, the first public defense of a doctoral thesis in the field of Agronomy took place under the coordination of Mr. CSI Chief Prof. Dr. habil. Ioan Valentin Petrescu-Mag.
The main objectives of the educational process at the level of the Doctoral School of Agronomy are: to train valuable specialists, whose scientific training meets the demands of the labour market in research, specialists prepared to respond promptly to new scientific challenges in the field, who successfully represent our university in the country and abroad.
