The doctoral field of INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING is part of the fundamental field of ENGINEERING SCIENCES.
The doctoral studies represent the third cycle of university studies and allow to acquire the title of doctor in the fundamental field of ENGINEERING SCIENCES. In the case of the University of Oradea, the doctoral field of INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING is based on a consistent experience (tradition), being the oldest doctoral field (1995).
The development of this doctoral field was possible due to the existence of two premises. The first premise is of an academic nature, more precisely, the University of Oradea has developed a bachelor degree programme in Machine Building Technology (first cycle of university studies), complemented by master degree programmes in the field of INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING.
At present, the Master's degree programme is called Computer Aided Design Manufacturing and Management (second cycle of university studies). These degree programmes have been taught by experienced teachers, PhDs and PhD supervisors in the field of INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING. The second premise that has been and remains the basis for the development of the doctoral field of INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING is the economic environment. On the one hand, it was the industrial tradition of Oradea, on the other hand, it is the present and future economic environment of Oradea, of the Crișana region and not only. The dynamics of the development of industrial companies is very strong, and they are, in fact, the potential beneficiaries of the results of the research carried out by PhD students under the guidance of their supervisors and mentoring committees.
The PhD field of INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING at the University of Oradea is supported by 8 PhD supervisors. The research topics are very diverse. A first category of topics concerns the conception, the design of products with superior characteristics and properties, complex equipment, automated manufacturing lines, intelligent mechatronic systems. Another group of concerns is research into the design of high-performance production technologies and processes. All research is supported by important theoretical contributions, verified by modelling and simulation and validated in practice.
The research activity in the PhD field of INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING has a strong applied character. It aims at the informational integration of all stages of the product life cycle through the new Industry 4.0 concept.
